Job descriptionThe evidence and delivery division is responsible for the delivery of a number of strategic products underpinning BoDT as well as facilitating transformational change in delivery across the department through “exemplar” projects. Exemplar projects aim to tackle complex problems through working in an open, collaborative way that brings together a wider variety of specialists to work as one team in accordance with the principles of BoDT (evidence-based, customer focused, end-to-end, and empowered).
The number of exemplar projects will grow as we scale but we are looking for delivery managers to support these projects directly “on the ground” whilst remaining part of the BoDT team.
An example of an exemplar project is where we’re going to explore whether there are better ways to deliver the department’s activity with schools in a way that works for our users by trialing approaches in the South East South London (SESL) region. We do not yet know exactly what ‘activity’ we want to improve and how we will do it. But likely areas will include: School improvement (inc intervention), school efficiency and financial health (inc intervention), teacher sufficiency and safeguarding. Our starting point will be users themselves – schools – we will ask them what problems they encounter working with the DfE. We are going to try things in the SESL region – likely small pockets of SESL at first – to see whether we can make improvements before we think about spreading it wider.
One of the Delivery Manager roles will be to manage the South East and South London lab as an agile project, working alongside the project manager and product owners via a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled team. The Delivery Manager will be adept at performing the Delivery Manager role in both a digital and non-digital environment, breaking down barriers for the team and both planning at a higher level and getting into the detail to make things happen when needed. The Delivery Manager will be core to decisions that build the high performing team, where people are excited about the work they are undertaking.
Person specificationEssential Skills and Experience:
• Proven experience in delivering digital projects and products
• Proven experience using a range of agile project management methods
• Proven experience balancing multiple priorities and dealing with ambiguity
• Understanding of the digital landscape
• Experience in matrix-managing multi-disciplinary teams
