Job Description

Web Developer - (Classic ASP, JavaScript, .Net, C#) - St Ives, Cambridgeshire


Reporting to the Senior Developer this role requires the individual to work on new systems from specification documents, and to support and maintain existing IT systems. 

While much of our current coding platform uses C# ASP.Net MVC with SQL server databases, many of our older systems have been created using an in-house application framework called CMSX; an ASPX/VB6/SQL based content management system and experience with these older technologies will be advantageous.  The post holder will need to be proficient in this older technology base.

Main Duties & Responsibilities: 

The duties of the role incumbent are highlighted below but will vary and flex dependent on business priorities, sometimes outside the scope of the stated bullet points:

Essential
  • Design technical requirements from business specifications
  • High degree proficiency in classic ASP and JavaScript
  • VB6 and VBScript including ADO and MSXML
  • Good knowledge of .NET 3.5 or higher using C#
  • SQL Server database design, transact-SQL and stored procedures
  • Source control, preferably TortoiseSVN and/or Git
Desirable
  • RedGate database tools, particularly Source Control
  • Configuring and supporting web applications using IIS
  • Azure
Key Activities
  • Design and develop applications in a range of technologies from specification documents
  • Contribute continuously to the integration of old and new technologies and the migration of the older code to .Net

Skills and knowledge: 


Essential - 
  • Track record delivering solutions in Microsoft technologies
  • Technical specification document writing
  • Copes under pressure with proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Work on own initiative
  • Aptitude for extracting requirements from users
  • Strong verbal communicator
Desirable - 
  • Design experience in a .Net environment
  • Microsoft certified solutions developer (past or present)
  • Knowledge of property industry e.g. estate agency, property portals
  • Application / Customer support
