Must have a background in design, research and understanding people and what they need of services and technology.
Must be security cleared (SC level) or willing and able to undergo security clearance.
Must have examples of design work on services (e design portfolio) that is included as an attachment or a link, along with a CV, to be considered for this work.
Solid experience as a service designer, designing public services and with up to date knowledge of what is happening in digital government. Suppliers must have a background in user centred design (academic and/or at least considerable experience). Suppliers must have evidence of their design work on services e.g. include relevant design examples as a portfolio.
Must be aware of the GDS service design manual, service standards, #govdesign design patterns, approaches, and prototyping kits
Understands how to work with user research and how to use insight on user needs and context, to design better services, and has extensive experience of this.
Analytical skills to identify where problems exist in a service and why, to identify multiple possible solutions and to build a compelling case for priorities in fixing them
Experience re-framing requests for work to get to the route of the problem and to help set teams up to deliver the right kinds of things
Design skills to identify multiple good approaches to design problems, ways of testing assumptions and choosing between options
Experience of working in a large government department as a service designer.
